Navy "Physical Readiness" Series
Defense Media Activity (DMA) is the Department of Defense’s line of communications for news and information to U.S. forces worldwide. Hooah was contracted to produce a series of five 59-second public service announcements (PSAs) for use by the U.S. Navy on the importance of proper nutrition for physical readiness and the Navy's zero tolerance policy on the use of designer drugs.
Hooah Production Studios employed motion graphics animation for all spots in order to better accommodate the client’s budget while providing an informative visual format to engage the attention of the target audience.
The three Physical Readiness PSAs were written and produced upon the theme we created, “Be Fit, Be Ready, Be Healthy,” which serves as the opening tagline for each. Their purpose is a call-to-action to the Navy Nutrition Program on the Navy Personnel Command website: www.npc.navy.mil. Each PSA relates the information directly to cause-and-effect in a way that is relevant to the target audience of young Sailors.
“Hydration” makes the point that even minor dehydration results in a marked decrease in reaction time and decision-making ability – which can have serious consequences. “Healthy Choices” tells viewers how to keep a food log to measure and analyze their nutrition intake so that they can modify their diet accordingly and experience the optimum benefits of working out. “Empty Calories” relates why viewers feel sluggish after eating a high-fat meal, and how following a balanced diet improves energy levels so they’re better prepared to meet challenges.
The Physical Readiness PSAs are used in various military media outlets to drive traffic to the Navy Nutrition Program for providing information about following a healthy lifestyle.
